Arnie Jarmak and Josh Resnek Present at the Gloucester Writers Center

Join us at the GWC on Thursday, December 11th at 7PM for a discussion of Jarmak and Resnek's latest collaborative effort, The Last Seder in Little Jerusalem. A document of changing circumstances and changing times in Chelsea, MA, the book is unflinching, smart, and well-illustrated with Jarmak's one-of-a-kind eye.

Resnek, a dogged, relentless reporter brings his years of experience tracking the toughest stories to bear on this work charting Chelsea's post-industrial development and the changing demographic story central to our understand of so many American cities. The collaboration is fruitful and quite moving.

In the mid-70s, photographer Arnold Jarmak had finished his time in Gloucester, having documented the demolition of the Fisherman's Institute and met locals including Vincent Ferrini. He moved to Chelsea, MA where he worked, along with reporter Josh Resnek, at the Chelsea Record.

The Last Seder in Little Jerusalem is their third collaboration as they've worked relentlessly to document the story of Chelsea and to connect that story to broader truths about our nation of immigrants -- the home of the tired, poor, and huddled masses. What makes the identity of a city? What marks a place as one with a distinct nature and culture? This book is well reported and deeply felt. Come see for yourself!
