Writing + Discussion Groups.
Writing and Discussion Groups are peer-led. Some are run by GWC staff, while others are independent but maintain a close affiliation with (and often meet at) the Center. Each group has its own meeting schedule and membership procedures, noted here.

We are serious writers at all points in our journey. We write all genres, and gather weekly to discuss and critique each others’ new works and works-in-progress.

We are advanced poets actively honing our craft together in a supportive, yet rigorous, environment.

The Finish Line writers’ group was created in 2011 as an opportunity for writers to express their talent and build skills in a safe, nurturing environment. Our original objective: to bring current projects to completion, and several books have been published by members as a result. We provide reviews, artistic, and technical support for submitting members. Any genre or style of writing is acceptable, though we have generated primarily fiction, creative non-fiction, and memoir.
Participants are expected to periodically submit their work for review and to provide review for fellow members. We add new members from time to time.

RiverStones: A Women’s Writing Group at the Gloucester Writers Center
“El rio abajo rio” — the river beneath the river.
RiverStones is a women’s writing group dedicated to exploring the deeper currents of our lives through prose, poetry, and memoir. Inspired by the concept of the rio abajo rio — the river beneath the river — we will use writing and imagery to uncover, witness, and shape our life stories in community.
This intimate group, rooted in mutuality, inclusion, and generosity, offers a space for creative transformation and deep support. Following in the tradition of a beloved earlier women’s writing group at the Gloucester Writers Center, RiverStones is offered free of charge to ensure access for all.
Format: Prose, poetry, memoir, and image-based writing
Focus: Personal story, transformation, mutual support
Cost: Free
Enrollment: Limited to 6 participants
