Open Mic
Bring your words to the mic. Our open mics are a lively, low-pressure space for writers and readers of all kinds — poets, storytellers, essayists, and the curious — to share their work and hear from fellow voices in the community. All levels welcome, all genres welcome. Come read, or just come listen.
Hosted each month by Bob Whelan, the evening begins with round-the-table readings from writers who come to share their work. After a short intermission, the night concludes with a reading by our featured poet or writer, with a different featured guest joining us each month.
Want to read? No advance registration is required. Simply sign in when you arrive, and readers will be called in order. Bring a poem, a short piece of prose, or another selection of your work to share.
Just want to listen? You’re very welcome! Audience members do not need to sign in or participate in the readings.
Come to read, come to listen, or simply come be part of Gloucester’s writing community.
